Joe Madureira leaves Vigil games

Quite a shocker of an announcement but Joe Madureira has left as the creative director at Vigil Games. He helped co-found the company back in 2005 and released Darksiders and now Darksiders II. Here is a breakdown on his departure he posted on facebook...
Ok! First of all, thank you for all the support. It means the world to me. I just wanted to provide a little more info/clarify a few points. I wish I could hit every single question, and maybe I will someday, but for now:

1-I left Vigil and THQ on very good terms. The continued success of the studio is extremely important to me. And it is not out of the question that I could work with them as an external developer. I'm just not an employee anymore.

2-My leaving is not the 'end of Darksiders'. DS belongs to THQ, they are free to make as many Darksiders sequels as they'd like.

3- I'm not leaving games.

4-You diehard Battle Chasers fans are hilarious. No matter where I go or what I'm talking about, BC is always on people's minds. I LOVE YOU! In all honesty, it probably won't happen immediately, but I would absolutely love to relaunch this book at some point down the road. I can't commit to it though until I'm positive I could swing it. I can only imagine the terrible fate that would await me if I stopped doing the book a second time. So won't do it until I can do it right. And there are a couple projects between now and then. If anything changes, you will be the first to know!!

5-Yes, the Marvel stuff is still happening. As I mentioned, this will be my focus for a bit as Marvel has been extraordinarily patient with me as pages slowly trickled in while I was also Vigil's Creative Director. Before I do ANYthing else I need to get some books done!

6- Thanks again. Your energy and excitement constantly pick me up and motivate me on those gloomy days. ♥
Hopefully we'll get some news soon on what those "Next Big Things" he's working on at Marvel.

I won't go as far as to say this is good news, but I'm definitely not sad about it. I like JM's influence in the DS games, but really, the 3d conversion of his concepts don't do his work justice. I don't know if that is the fault of the 3d artists or limitations of technology. Hopefully this is the first step toward the resurrection of BC. None of us are getting any younger, and every second that goes by is a second of his life that he won't be able to spend on BC.

I'm sure Joe will continue to contribute to the videogame industry in cool ways. I look forward to seeing more of his concept work and visual style impacting that field.

However, the best thing about this news is that it seems to imply we'll be getting more Joe Mad comics and that's a wonderful thing. I think Joe is wise to hold off on working on BC until he can really do it right. Until that time, his Marvel stuff will be a nice treat to hold us hungry fans over.

Hollywood Reporter Interview with Joe Madureira and new Battle Chasers 10 Artwork by Ludo Lullabi

Joe Madureira did a small interview with The Hollywood Reporter about the in-progress continuation of Battle Chasers 10-12 written by Joe and drawn by Ludo Lullabi. I'll pull out some of the highlights below. About Battle Chasers 10: The new comic is due to hit by year’s end, once again from publisher Image Comics, and will be followed monthly by no. 11 and no. 12, with a goal to tell a complete story arc. Madureira is writing the comic but, as opposed to the previous issues, not drawing. Instead, he handed those duties to Ludo Lullabi, whom he discovered while making 2017’s Battle Chasers: Nightwar role playing game. He does plan on drawing variant covers , however. And to whet appetites, the return issue will be 32 pages, no ads. "I just want to make a cool comic that people talk about," Madureira says. "It may be a little more edgier, a bit more mature than before. I’m curious to see how it will be received." About Battle Chasers delays; past and present: Ma...

Art Advice 2.0 from Joe Madureira

Joe Madureira has continued voicing his art advice with details on what gear he uses, his influences, and skills needed for working in the game or comic industry. Art Advice 2.0 Now for the specific art questions I do get very often:   1-I use a technical pencil with HB lead 99% of the time. Staedler, Koo-in-oor, Prismacolor Turquoise, it’s all good. Take your pick. I use them all. Sometimes I work on paper that’s a little different ( smoother or more coarse ) and I may move up or down to an H or a B lead if needed. But I find H and 2H digs into the pap er and is too hard to erase ( Which sadly I do a lot of ) and B is too soft ( smudges like a mofo.) B is fantastic for going back over lines, darkening , and adding weight to your lines. Basically, ‘inking’ with a pencil. **Just keep a sheet of scrap paper under your hand or you will smudge the shit out of your drawing!!!** HB suits my needs 99% of the time. Really no need to switch it out, just adjust your pressure. Harder or...
