Newsarama has received the comic book sales number for December and has said Ultimates 3 Issue One was the top-selling comic book of the month. Congrats to the Ultimates team! Over at comic book resources they have an updated 5 page preview of Ultimates 3 Issue 2. This is a nice preview before the issue comes out this wednesday January 23rd.

The second print of Ultimates Volume 3 issue 1 was released yesterday with a beautiful new cover (see last post) as well as a colour fix of the interiors! The dark and muddy print job has disappeared and has been replaced by a much lighter and clear print that lets the fine details be shown in the work by Joe Madureira. I found out that Jeph Loeb and Joe Madureira will be special guests at Wizard World Los Angeles so I'm sure there will be some new announcements and details on their Ultimates 3 run. The convention takes place from March 14-16th, 2008. Over at Marvel Comics there are two sweet wallpapers of the covers to Ultimates Vol 3.3 and 3.4, here are the highest quality versions for your viewing pleasure. Finally, Ultimates 3.2 comes out next Wednesday January 23rd to your local comic book retailers, don't forget to pick up your copy!

Great news for Joe Madureira fans, the first issue of Ultimates Volume 3 sold out and will have a second print . The cover will feature the splash page with Valkyrie about to cut Venom, expect it to hit shelves on January 16th. Also, there was a bit of a backlash on the printing quality of the first issue, it was dark and muddy which made it very moody (which was great in my opinion). Anyway the second print may be altered to have better printing... here is was the colourist had to say. So I finally got a copy. Don't ask why it's taken this long, but trust me it wasn't easy. The book printed so incredibly dark, I have a difficult time trying to stay positive about anything. The book sold out, and the thought that they're all out there, this dark and muddy, is really hard to take. I'm trying to find out if there's anything I can do about this for the 2nd printing. Ultimates Vol 3 #1 arrived in stores this past Wednesday and it's receiving mixed reviews... positive from Joe Mad fans and negative for the story and characters since they don't seem to be following the past Ultimates storyline... Anyway, over at CBR.com there's an interview with Jeph Loeb that's worth a read. They posted some new pages from Issue #2 as well.

In December Marvel is going all out on the release of Joe Madureira's Ultimates volume 3. There will be two different covers with pull out gate folds, one featuring the heroes and the other the villains. Furthermore, there will be four posters released showcasing each cover as well as two posters in black and white showcasing Madureira's fine linework. Over at wizard's website they have posted a new interview talking with Joe Madureira about what he's up to and his work on Ultimates 3, which is hitting in December by the way. Thankfully they asked if he would continue Battle Chasers but his answer has changed a bit, " MADUREIRA: Hmm, everyone asks me about that… I don’t know. I feel like it’s been so long at this point I’d almost have to re-launch it just to get people back up to speed. I don’t know how much comic work I can realistically do with the game company totally taking off as it has. Early on I didn’t know if this thing was going to go anywhere so I kind of factored in a lot more time to work on the comic stuff than what I actually have. We’ll see. If I do a steady chunk of comic work at some point, I would love to do some Battle Chasers stuff even if it’s just smaller stories. I can’t believe that I’ll never work with those characters again. IGN just released the full hero and villain poster today, I have to say it is pretty bad ass. Also during the San Diego Comic Con this Saturday, Marvel Comics is hosting their Ultimate Universe panel. This will have both Jeph Loeb and Brian Bendis discussing Ultimates 3 and Ultimate Origin. I'll post any new news and imagery that are released as usual.

With the San Diego Comic Con starting in mere hours Ign has posted an early look at Ultimates 3's cover art. Check back on friday for news on the Ultimates Panel which should reveal even more about the series as well as some new imagery.

Huge announcement from Vigil Games , they have announced a new game called Darksiders: Wrath of War. Joe Madureira is the creative director and the game looks very stylized of his work. Here are some images as well check out gametrailers.com for some gameplay footage.

This august Aspen Comics is releasing the four issue mini-series of Iron and the Maiden by Jason Rubin (Of Crash Bandicoot and Jax and Dexter Fame) which features character designs by Joe Madureira and Jeff Matsuda. Here's some news on Ultimates 3 from Newsarama. Joe, how soon will we be getting Ultimates 2 #13 and then Ultimates 3 #1 ? JQ : King Cobra, Ultimates 2 #13 next week. Ultimates 3 #1 release will be announced by San Diego Comic-Con The San Diego Comic Con takes place from July 26 to the 29th so we still have a bit of a wait for any new information or imagery...unless Mad releases some early work.

Weekly column "New Joe Friday's" over at Newsarama.com had a Q&A section where a fan asked about getting to see some new artwork for Ultimates 3. RQ: “hendrijr” - Hey Joe, got a question for you about another Joe. Haven't heard or seen much of Joe Mads upcoming Marvel work yet-and he was announced like two years ago. Any chance we can see some of said artwork soon? JQ : Mmmm, more like a year and a half, hendrijr. Joe is feverishly working on The Ultimates but at his and Jeph Loeb’s request, we’re not revealing much of it just yet. Don’t worry, it’s coming and it looks amazing!

Here's the first Joe Madureira related work for 2007, the Onslaught Reborn #2 Variant cover. I've scanned it for a larger version for you to check out. In terms of Ultimates Vol. 3, it seems it won't be out until the summer of this year... which is disappointing but with all the delays I'm hoping Joe is getting issues finished so there won't be a delay between issues when they do start releasing. Over at Newsarama they have put up two of the four variant covers for the upcoming Onslaught Reborn #2 shipping in December. If this piece of work is any indication of what to expect of his Ultimates 3 run then we are in for a real treat. Mad is offically back!

Over at newsarama.com this weeks New Joe Fridays had a question on the progress of projects at Marvel. NRAMA: And since we’re talking about artists and schedules, how about quick updates on when fans might see any of the following projects? Ultimates 3? JQ: Joe Mad pages are beautiful. Wish I could show ya, but you’ll have to wait until Ultimates 3 in 2007. So again, no specific date has been announced yet on when in 2007 we will get Joe Madureira's Ultimate 3 art in our hands but I'm hoping it will be soon after Ultimates 2 finishes up in December/January.

I was just checking Newsarama's Marvel solicitations for December and read that Joe will be doing a variant cover for Onslaught Reborn #2 (written by Jeph Loeb, Pencils and cover by Rob Liefeld). Sadly there is no image with the solicitation but I'll look around for one.

It has been a very quiet few months for Joe Madureira fans but over at the Baltimore ComicCon Joe Quesada had a small update on the progress of Ultimates vol. 3. What's the progress on "Ultimates" volumes 3 and 4? Quesada has seen Joe Madureira's first issue and says it looks good. Madureira is "feverishly" working on more. There was also another question... Michael Turner or Joe Madureira on Spider-Man? "Anything's possible," Quesada replied. "They pick the projects they want to do." I've found out from joemadfan.com that Joe Mad did some character designs for Iron and the Maiden which is an upcoming comic/video game with no release date yet. Sadly there are no images from Mad shown at this time. There is going to be a flip cover by Joe Mad for Elephantmen #4 due out in October. Again, Nathen from joemadfan.com found out that the cover is just a re-hash of his earlier Hip Flask cover so it's not new art. An older update ...

Over at Newsarama in this weeks New Joe Fridays Joe Quadsa had a little bit to say about Joe Madureira's Ulitmates 3 run. As to what they've got hatching in Ultimates 4 -- I can't really say because it is impacted by Ultimates 3, which is impacted by Ultimates 2. You don't want me to get in trouble with Millar, Hitch, Loeb, Madureira and McGuinness do you? Don't answer that! Okay, I can tell you this much, McGuinness' two favorite Marvel characters are Thor and the Hulk. Now, what book has both of those characters in it? So, wouldn't a story that brought those two together by Loeb and McGuinness sound... interesting? AH! I've said too much! I found out that every page in Batman/Superman #26 is being auctioned off at Wizard World Chicago for the Sam Loeb College Scholarship fund. The event takes place on August 5th from 2-4 PM. Check out this site for more details. You can also check out all the inked pages for the issue on that site, which is where I got this Joe Mad page. I would like to recommend everyone to go out and buy this issue because Jeph Loeb has done so much for the comic world and this was his sons first major publication that was never finished due to his passing, he will be dearly missed. The issue just came out today so head out to your local shop to pick it up since it features pages from dozens of other artists that all came together to create this special tribute issue for Sam Loeb, Jeph Loeb's son. I apologize for the quality of the image, it was taken with a digital camera because I don't have access to a scanner at the moment but I figured I'd put it up anyway since I know a lot of you love seeing new Mad! art like I do. Next up for Joe will be his Ultimates vol. 3 run which should begin later this year. Ultimates vol. 2 is wrapping up at the end of June so we should be hearing more information and hopefully seeing more imagery in the coming months. Enjoy the image!

DC comics is shipping Batman/Superman #26 this week which will have a couple pages by Joe Mad. Here's what DC has to say about the issue.
